What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?
A midwife is a medical professional who provides clinical care and delivers the baby, while a doula offers emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. In short: the midwife handles the medical care, and the doula cares for the birthing experience.
Will me partner be cut out if I hire a doula?
Not as all, it is quite the opposite actually! A doulas job is not to take over the birth and push your partner to the side, it is to work with BOTH of you, making sure that your partner feels involved and supported as well. Hiring a doula can actually make your partner feel more prepared going into labor.
When is the best time to hire a doula?
I would recommend hiring a doula as soon as you feel ready so you can create a relationship with them and have time for both pre natal appointments. But, it is never too late to hire a doula.
